On September 28, 2022, SWFL was struck by Hurricane Ian, a Category 4 hurricane that has proved to be the costliest hurricane in Florida history. All of PDMs Special Districts were effected, two of which had projected damages estimated over the FEMA large project threshold of $1 million. PDM’s field management services were on the ground immediately assessing damages and issuing a preliminary field report on day one after the hurricane had passed. As damages were reported, and cleanup crews began emergency work to clear roads, rights of way, and storm drains, staffers began the reimbursement claim process with FEMA. Utilizing both contract grants writers and internal staffers, the long term process of collecting data, submitting assessments, photographs, videos, forms, and applications began immediately. Given PDM’s track record with FEMA cost-sharing on Hurricane Irma in 2017, all eligible reimbursements are expected in the coming months for all of our districts.
